Childhood Health & Wellness Program
Embedded within the encompassing framework of Optimist International’s flagship endeavor, The Childhood Health & Wellness Program, which is dedicated to nurturing the health and wellness of young individuals, Optimist International Nepal has developed a project with a central emphasis on enhancing comprehensive psychosocial health among adolescents. The initiatives within this project have been meticulously designed to embrace vital elements, which include:
- Comprehensive sexuality education, spanning physical, social, emotional, and cognitive changes experienced during adolescence and young adulthood. This also includes guidance on reproductive health, the promotion of positive relationships, insights into sexual health and sexuality, and the cultivation of effective decision-making skills.
- Upholding rights to combat gender discrimination, gender-based violence, child marriage, and ensuring a healthy and safe learning environment, while also emphasizing responsibilities towards oneself, family, and society.
- Raising awareness against potentially risky behaviors, such as unhealthy use of information and communication technology, smoking, alcoholism, and drug addiction.
- Promoting the “Optimism as a Philosophy of Life” to enhance wellbeing and foster a flourishing life.
The key programs within this project encompass workshops conducted with adolescents in schools, along with seminars involving active participation from stakeholders in school education. These program components collectively contribute to the overarching goal of nurturing the holistic development of adolescents and empowering them to lead flourishing lives.
The project is being implemented by the Optimist Clubs with technical support from Optimist International Nepal and financial backing from government and non-government agencies.
